Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, “As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you . . . . This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:11-13)
God intends good for us. God intends to save us. God has promised not to abandon us. For Noah and his descendants, God gave the rainbow as the sign of his covenant faithfulness. Ultimately God sent a much greater sign than the rainbow after the flood. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to embody God’s covenant of love.
Through the abiding work of the Holy Spirit, Christ is now dwelling in you and in his Body on earth, the Church. You and I are called to be the sign of Christ in the world. I give glory to God for all the ways our community of faith, along with many others, are embodying the love of Christ. Whether it is mucking out houses, cutting sheetrock, providing food and supplies, offering transportation, taking in families, or washing others’ clothes, the people of Trinity and the whole community are brought together to embody God’s covenant love. In the midst of all the sorrow and pain . . . praise God for you!
THIS SUNDAY, SEPT. 10, AFTER THE 10:30 A.M. SERVICE, WE WILL OFFER A MEAL IN VIVION HALL PREPARED BY LOVING HANDS AND HEARTS.
