This Sunday we continue our summer sermon series, Blessed to Be a Blessing, with the story of Jacob and Esau in Genesis 25:19–34. Before Jacob can even speak, he is already grasping at his brother’s heel, and that posture becomes a picture of much of his life. Together we will reflect on the ways we grasp for control, security, blessing, or immediate relief, and how God calls us to receive the promise by trust rather than seize it by force. Even in a family marked by rivalry, favoritism, and struggle, God’s blessing keeps moving forward.

This week in our summer series, “Blessed to Be a Blessing,” we come to one of the most difficult stories in Genesis: the binding of Isaac. In Genesis 22:1–14, Abraham faces a test that raises hard questions about faith, obedience, trust, and the character of God. Yet at the edge of the story, God stops the knife and provides another way. Join us as we wrestle honestly with this troubling text and hear the good news that God’s promise is not carried forward through harm, but through mercy, provision, and faithfulness.

Now being held in the West Wing, this retreat is a time to look ahead to the church's fall and holiday seasons as we vision and plan together. All church participants are welcome to join church leadership for a morning of conversation, brainstorming, and shared discernment.

This Sunday, we begin a new summer sermon series through Genesis, Blessed to Be a Blessing. In Genesis 12:1–9, God calls Abram to step out in faith—not only to receive God’s blessing, but to become a blessing to the world. As we gather for worship and Holy Communion, we will consider where God may be calling us, both individually and as a church, to trust God’s grace and share God’s love with others.

Beginning June 7, youth in grades 6–12 are invited to join us on Sunday mornings for Sunday Morning Share. Fellowship begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by a short, video-based lesson and discussion. This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, and at Trinity United Methodist Church we will ask a question rooted in both our name and our calling: "Why would a church name itself Trinity?" Using Psalm 8 and Matthew 28:16–20, we will reflect on what it means to be a people who honor the dignity of every person, follow the risen Christ into mission, and live in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, the day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. We are grateful to welcome Rev. Kyle Trembly as our guest preacher in worship at 10:30 am. Kyle serves as the pastor/director of the Wesley Foundation at Lamar University, helping college students grow in faith, community, and service. Join us as we give thanks for the Spirit who continues to breathe life into the church and send us into the world as witnesses of God’s love.
